Farnborough kicked off under a grey sky at the Saunders Transport Community Stadium, with the Wanderers faithful in full voice behind their goal.
We quickly created the first chance: Jimmy Muitt sprinted past former Wanderer Aaron Khul on the left and struck a shot that forced a save. The rebound fell to Niall McManus, who couldn’t keep his shot down, sending it over the crossbar.
Minutes later, on his first start since returning from a shoulder injury, Brennan Camp delivered a low, driven cross. Again, McManus was in position but, unfortunately, sent the ball over the bar once more.
McManus stayed in the thick of the action, earning a yellow card for a challenge on the edge of our penalty area. The resulting free kick was well struck, but Harrison Foulkes matched it with a diving save, palming it away for a corner.
Keeping up the pressure, we carved out several chances, the closest coming from an attempted block by Farnborough’s Edon Pruti, whose deflection nearly turned into an own goal. Goalkeeper Jack Turner, however, reacted quickly, diving low to keep it out.
The hosts’ next big chance came on a swift break, with Matthews-Lewis charging toward a two-man Wanderers defence. He slipped the ball to Joe Haigh, who calmly slotted it in from close range, giving Farnborough the lead against the run of play. 1-0.
Barely a minute later, Farnborough attacked again. This time, Ricky Holme found space in the penalty area and curled a precise shot past Foulkes into the net. 2-0.
Despite the shock of conceding twice in quick succession, we regained momentum, winning a series of corners before the break. In the last of these, Rob Milsom’s cross found Brennan Camp, who rose above his marker to head home, halving the deficit just before halftime. 2-1.
Half time: Farnborough 2-1 Dorking Wanderers.
Early in the second half, Niall McManus earned a foul on the edge of Farnborough’s box, setting up a promising opportunity. Milsom’s cross took a deflection, sending the ball high into the air before finding goalscorer Brennan Camp. He slotted it in confidently, thinking he’d secured his brace—only to be denied by the linesman’s flag.
Shortly after, Milsom had another free kick from the right. With trademark precision, he sent it again to Camp, who struck past Turner to finally claim his brace. 2-2.
With momentum on our side, a quick counter-attack allowed Alfie Rutherford to drive at the defence, beat his man and send the ball past Turner, completing the turnaround for Dorking. 2-3.
Remaining on the front foot, Marc White’s men pushed forward. Jimmy Muitt cut in from the right, his shot taking a deflection and slipping past a stranded Turner, doubling our lead and capping off a remarkable run of three goals in just six minutes. 2-4.
At the seventy-minute mark, Man Of The Match Brennan Camp and goalscorer Jimmy Muitt made way for George Francomb and Matt Briggs. Shortly after, Farnborough pulled one back: a swift counter attack saw the ball driven across our penalty area, and met by an outstretched Matthews-Lewis who converted a clear shot at goal. 3-4
In response, the gaffer shored up the defense, bringing on Barry Fuller and Seb Bowerman for goalscorer Alfie Rutherford and Jordan Norville-Williams.
Boro continued to press and had two big opportunities in quick succession. Foulkes was forced into a brilliant diving save after a Farnborough defender skilfully manoeuvred past several Dorking players and unleashed a powerful shot from distance. Richard Chin then had a good chance at goal, having beaten his man twice over with the same chop, releasing a driven shot just wide of Foulkes’ right stick.
Despite the hosts’ best efforts and a tense atmosphere, we held firm to secure our first away win since the season opener against Truro. Be sure to join us at Meadowbank this Tuesday, November 5th, as we look to make it three wins on the bounce!
