After a busy bank-holiday period – with last Saturday’s 0-2 defeat at Hemel Hampstead and a triumphant 4-1 win at Meadowbank vs Tonbridge Angels on Monday – we travel to Twerton Park in Somerset to face Bath City in our 6th NLS fixture.
We look to build on from Monday’s result which saw goals from Charlie Carter, Brennan Camp and a brace from Alfie Rutherford- who opened the scoring within the 5-minute mark – and continue to prove our threat in front of goal. However, Bath come into the game unbeaten in their last three with victories over Salisbury and Eastbourne alongside a draw vs Ebbsfleet – showing we will need to continue Monday’s strong performance which Marc White saw as “tactically spot-on”.
Our meetings last season saw a 2-2 draw in Somerset with a controversial sending off for Josh Taylor and a late injury time equaliser from Bath after we came back from 0-1 down – as well as a 0-1 win at Meadowbank.
Inevitably with such a quick turnover of games, we have a slightly depleted squad with several players unavailable – such as Francombe, Annesley, Norville-Williams, Moore and Mcmanus all expected to miss out.
Reflecting on August, Marc White believed we have “underachieved”, especially in front of goal with such a high xG but that we remain to keep high expectations for this season. As always, he also highlighted how impressive our support has been recently, both home and away, especially after Saturday’s defeat. He’s even offering drinks on him for any fans that make the journey to Bath on Friday ahead of the game!
