After Tuesday’s tough defeat in the Capital, we look to return to winning ways as we welcome newly promoted AFC Totton to Meadowbank.
Tuesday saw us fall to a 1-0 defeat in Hornchurch, despite appearing to have the larger share of chances. Due to illness and injury, Marc White has shared we have had players out of position and minimal squad changes throughout this busy period including Tuesday – but we still managed to create several opportunities yet failed to capitalise on them and ultimately fell short in the 80th minute as Scannell scored the winner , that has taken Hornchurch to the top of the league at this early stage.
Reflecting on the game Marc White believes it was a strong performance with a disappointing result, with us having 60% possession and treble the shots compared to our opponents – which could’ve seen us at least 3 goals up in the first half an hour. However, the turning point came when goalkeeper Foulkes picked up an injury, which we now know sees him out of action for 4 weeks, and altered our game plan of playing out from him.
Looking ahead to Saturday, we welcome AFC Totton to Meadowbank for the first time, with this season in the National League South being the highest level their club has ever competed; after back-to-back playoffs paying off as they beat Gloucester City in the Southern League Premier division playoff final in May. With a strong start to the campaign, they currently sit 4th in the league- yet only 3 points separate them from us in 11th. In our last 3 games, we have 2 wins and 1 loss, in that order, while The Stags have 2 wins followed by a 1-1 draw vs Chesham on Tuesday night. Manager Marc White has shown his excitement ahead of this fixture, not only as it sees his return in the home dug-out, but as he’s kept an eye on Totton’s progression through the football pyramid.
With several players out due to injury and illness, many are still recovering however flagship signing, according to Marc White, Gibraltar national Louie Annesley is set to make his competitive Wanderers debut after getting injured in the Advertiser Trophy vs Leatherhead back in July.
We are expecting a big crowd down to support the boys due to the international break, and as a result we are offering a discount to all EFL and Premier League season ticket holders when you show your valid season ticket on the gate. As well as this, the fan-zone will be showing England vs Andorra after our game, with pints £5 all day!
