After overcoming Lewes 2-1 at Meadowbank in the first qualifying round, Lead Coach Bobby-Joe Taylor made just one change to his starting eleven, and it was enforced one with Bruno Dackombe replacing fellow second year academy student Chris Ewen at right-back due to injury.
The home side began the brighter, Joshua Ewing driving a deflected effort wide, the subsequent corner ball delivery then headed over the bar. Fergus Swift also blasted a shot wide after finding space on the left side of the box.
And on 20 minutes The Krooners manage to make the breakthrough, a low cross from the right bundled home inside the six-yard box, but just three minutes later, Wanderers managed to pull themselves back level with a rapid response; Hebert driving a strike from 25 yards out in off the post after surging into space and doing well to a bobbling ball down from a central position.
A corner ball swung in by the winger from the left was punched off the goal line by the Camberley GK as Wanderers built momentum in the lead up to half-time, Hebert then going mighty close to grabbing his second goal of the evening by hitting the upright of the crossbar with a powerful strike after shifting inside from the left and taking aim.
At the ideal time with virtually the last kick of the half, Hebert’s corner would this time find a way to goal as Wanderers took the lead in stoppage time; central midfielder Dillon Grass meeting the delivery with a run across the front post and a glancing header which would come off the under-side of the bar before crossing the line.
Bobby-Joe Taylor introduced Bertie Baker and Sidney Moore just after the half-time break to add fresh strength in the defensive area, but the start to the second forty-five would prove to be especially stop-start as niggly fouls and injury stoppages took hold on the game and broke up the rhythm.
Chances were at a real premium for both sides as play was increasingly battled out in central midfield areas, but with just under a quarter of an hour to go, Hebert managed to gather the ball just outside the opposition box and turn well before clinically sending a low strike into the bottom corner, sending Wanderers into a 1-3 lead.
The spirited hosts managed to pull a goal back with five minutes remaining though to set up a grandstand finish – a free kick on the wide-right marking of the penalty area sent in low and fired into the roof of the net at the second time of asking – but Wanderers managed to hold on through almost 10 minutes of stoppage time to secure their passage into the next round.
Further to the draw confirmed on Friday October 3rd, Wanderers will face Wingate & Finchley away at the third qualifying stage, the tie due to be played in the week commencing Monday October 13th.
