Wanderers can confirm the signing of 19-year-old Jose Marquez from Forest Green Rovers on a season-long loan.

Marquez has risen through the Forest Green ranks having joined the club at 13 years old. His arrival to Meadowbank comes after the forward caught the attention of Forest Green manager Robbie Savage while on loan at Alvechurch.

While on this month-long loan, Marquez scored a perfect hat-trick against Leamington in the FA Cup.

Since returning to Forest Green last month, the teenager has scored three goals and picked up two assists in three National League Cup games against West Brom, Wolves and Leicester’s under-21 sides, while also making two appearances in the National League.

Manager Marc White had this to say regarding the club’s new striker:

“We’ve been looking for an additional striker, after relying heavily on Alfie (Rutherford) and Jason (Prior), and feel it’s important to have competition in that area of the pitch”.

“Jose is a proven goal scorer at every level he’s played at. He’s an extremely exciting prospect for the future. I’m really excited to work with him.”

“I want to thank Richard Moffatt and OLBG for their genuine intent to help the club succeed in its ambitions. This wouldn’t have happened without their support. Thanks also to Robbie Savage and Marc Bowen at Forest Green Rovers for giving us the opportunity.”
