Last time out, Bobby-Joe Taylor’s side left it very late in the third qualifying round, coming from two goals down to overcome Wingate & Finchley just under a fortnight ago in a fixture played at Potters Bar Town FC.
Trailing 0-2 at half-time, a free kick special from Joshua Hebert halved the deficit approaching the hour, and after dominating possession from there, it was Hebert who tucked the ball in from close range deep in stoppage time to send the tie to pens.
Keeper Nathaniel Golan, called up from the Wanderers U16’s side to replace the injured Sam Allison, saved the second Wingate spot-kick with a great diving save, and with Miles Straker, Miguel Rodriguez, Dillon Grass, Sid Moore & Hebert scoring all 5 Wanderers pens, a 4-5 victory was secured in the shoot-out.
Joshua Hebert and Nathaniel Golan were awarded the Station View Garage Man Of The Match following the game (pictured)
An away tie to Cambridge City is up next for Wanderers at the first round stage – taking place at the FWD-IP Community Stadium in a 7:45pm KO tonight Thursday October 30th.
