We came into the match on a high, having won in our four previous outings, contrasting to the fortunes of our opponents.
In keeping with such a theme, we started the game on the front foot, as a lively Jose Marquez won a corner, which was drilled in low to Brennan Camp, who saw an effort blocked before Jimmy Muitt volleyed wide after a free kick was cleared.
Before the match, Farnborough had obtained three wins so far this season, and they struggled to get out of their own half against a confident Wanderers side in the first ten minutes, who had a further effort through a Jose Marquez volley that was saved from the centre of the penalty box.
In the following exchanges, the home side grew into the affair, increasing the pressure and striking wide of Harrison Foulkes’ goal from distance.
At the midway point of the first half, it was a match with limited chances, although the home side came close to going ahead as Louie Annesley produced a pivotal intervention to ensure Mason Bloomfield was unable to produce an effort on goal one-on-one.
Chances were also limited for us in the first half an hour of the match, before Brennan Camp saw an overhead kick roll wide and Jimmy Muitt stung the palms of Jack Turner as we searched for an opener.
Almost ten minutes afterwards, wing-back Jimmy Muitt went on a mazy run and gained success, although his effort on goal was tame and easily gathered by Jack Turner.
In our recent run, we have scored eight and conceded two, however following Muitt’s run, we were unable to stand firm defensively, as Farnborough top scorer Dom Poleon knocked the ball past Louis Storey, before driving the ball over Harrison Foulkes and into the net.
Centre-back Lachlan Byrd almost doubled the home side’s lead soon after, as his looping header beat the onrushing Harrison Foulkes before resting on the roof of the net.
Just before the interval, Muitt had a further effort after Frank Vincent found him on the edge of the box, however his dipping effort was wide of the mark.
The start of the second half was a nervy one for us, as Farnborough started confidently and Lachlan Byrd should have doubled their lead, smashing the ball against the bar from close range, before Frank Vincent saw his effort fly over the bar.
After Tommy Lee-Higgs saw his shot crucially blocked, Jimmy Muitt was then met with an equally important outcome as Jack Turner produced a wonderful save to deny his effort, before denying Brennan Camp from the resulting corner.
The following exchanges in the match were of a tame manner, as both teams battled to retain the ball and produce chances, before Jose Marquez struck a tame effort into the palms of Jack Turner.
In the 89th minute of the match, we had a crucial effort as a misplaced pass was picked up by James McShane and squared to Dennon Lewis, however his first time effort was met agonisingly by a fine save.
The final exchanges of the match were scrappy, yet unsuccessful for us, until the home side won a penalty in the 95th minute after a Harrison Foulkes foul, which was slotted home by Rakish Bingham to seal the three points.
Our next match will take place next Saturday in the FA Trophy as we look to advance against Eastbourne Borough.
