A registered charity set up in 2019 following the untimely passing of former professional footballer Steve Talboys, the foundation supports children and young people throughout Surrey, Greater London, Bristol and Gloucestershire in accessing sports within their local communities, many of whom are held back by challenging financial situations which prevent them from pursuing their sporting goals.
As a professional footballer Steve achieved what many young children dream of. After retiring from professional football, and over the following 16 years Steve committed his time, energy and enthusiasm to youth football in his local community. Steve had a passion like no other, helping and supporting young people to be the best they could, and for some, achieving a career in professional football.
Funding local amateur sports clubs for children and young people, The Steve Talboys Foundation strongly believes in the life changing benefits of providing opportunities within amateur sport. From enhancing physical and mental health and wellbeing, to developing transferable life skills, to boosting attainment and achievement in designated sports, the Foundation strongly believes that all children and young people should be offered the opportunity to engage with amateur sports to enable them to become the best they can be.
Delighted by the addition of a partnership with an established football academy, Chair and Founder of the Steve Talboys Foundation, Michelle Talboys, says:
“As the Chair and Founder of the Steve Talboys Foundation, it fills me with huge excitement to announce our new partnership with Dorking Wanderers Academy. As a new charity, with a vision to transform lives through sport, we are delighted to work in partnership with Dorking Wanderers Academy.
Aligning our visions and providing financial support within a professional and established sporting environment will enable growth for both partners but most importantly, the lives of hundreds of young people through football and education. Our partnership will establish, expand and enable initiatives within the Academy to continue for years to come.
As a partner and with the support of the Academy we are looking forward to raising awareness of the Steve Talboys Foundation and creating opportunities to fund raise so that we can continue to work with like minded organisations, putting young people first and developing life changing skills through sport.”
Looking forward to the commencement of the partnership and the opportunities which can be offered to benefit young people within the the local community, Dorking Wanderers Director of Football, Jordan Clark, adds the following:
“We are delighted to partner with the Steve Talboys Foundation. The vision and purpose of the Steve Talboys Foundation aligns completely with ours here at Dorking Wanderers Academy in impacting and supporting children and young people.
This partnership will benefit the lives of the full academy students and those of our youth academy. We are excited to announce immediately that The Steve Talboys Foundation will be our primary charity fundraiser for our annual Youth Academy Fun Day taking place in June, which is fantastic news.
We will be announcing a number of events over the course of this academic year to support the Foundation and support the young lives in our ever-growing community.”
