A dominant display earned us a 2-0 win over Slough Town in our third league fixture of the season
We secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Slough Town under the lights, after goals from an energetic Jimmy Muitt and Jason Prior gifted us all three points on home soil.
The victory came as our first one of the season, after keeping the visitors at arms length for 90 minutes thanks to a prompt opener setting the lead. It wasn’t until late on when we next saw the net ripple, as Prior’s glancing header relieved all nerves.
Ahead of this game, Marc White made three changes to the lineup that suffered Saturday’s troubling result against Hampton & Richmond Borough. One of those changes included new signing Louis Storey stepping straight into the back line.
The match started in lightning fashion, as Harrison Foulkes sent a thumping long ball forwards three minutes into the game, which was plucked perfectly by Jimmy Muitt who then took the ball swiftly round goalkeeper Desbois and tapped into an empty Slough net. 1-0
The early lead set the pace of the game, as we continued to attack the opposition penalty area and oppress the visitors’ shaken defence.
A beautifully worked counter attack found Muitt once again in the 18-yard box just shy of the 30-minute mark, but his left-footed curler lashed over the crossbar for a Slough Town goal kick.
History repeated itself just eight minutes later, as the early goalscorer zipped the ball across to Dennon Lewis on the edge of the six-yard box, whose finishing touch lacked conviction and once again resulted in a goal kick for the visitors.
Half-Time: Dorking Wanderers 1-0 Slough Town
The second half was welcomed by a handful of futile efforts from both camps, until another inviting cross from Jimmy Muitt met the left knee of Alfie Rutherford, who was unable to land the final blow 10 minutes into the half.
Shortly after, the referee dismissed home roars for a spot kick, following a controversial thwarting of Rutherford inside the Slough box.
With the clock ticking, Slough grew into the game, but nothing emerged from their short spell on the ball.
After chances amounted, we finally doubled our lead in the 84th minute, as an enticing Rutherford corner found the head of Jason Prior at the back post, who then nodded the ball in for his first goal of the season. 2-0
The substitution of Seb Tauta-Caballero, for his Wanderers debut, helped keep our lead intact and bring delight to the passionate home crowd.
