First Team Defeated By Notts County On BT Sport
For the second time this season Wanderers were live in front of the BT Sport cameras, and the chosen fixture was another trip to a club steeped in history; title-chasing Notts County the hosts in the late kick off on Saturday afternoon. Jason Prior sent the loud travelling contingent of 323 Wanderers fans into raptures 13 minutes in, flicking home Josh Taylor’s cross at the near post after he latched onto a brilliant diagonal ball from namesake Bobby-Joe. Within several minutes though, Macauley Langstaff equalised from close range, and shortly after the restart the division’s top marksman bagged his second of the afternoon and 35th of the campaign so far by burying Sam Austin’s cross sent in from the left. Despite the early lead being overturned, Wanderers gradually came back into the contest through the second half, the home side’s domination of possession starting to become more evened out as Wanderers got a foothold in the game, but midfielder Matt Palmer would make absolutely sure of the win for County with five minutes remaining, finishing off a well worked passing move leading up to the edge of the box.
The 3-1 defeat leaves Marc White’s men still 4 points away from the relegation zone, but now just one place above it after Yeovil crept ahead, The Glovers earning themselves a point at Chesterfield earlier on Saturday afternoon.
Without a Tuesday night game for the first time in a couple of weeks, Wanderers will look to get back to winning ways this Saturday as they hit the road again to take on York City in a 3pm kick off at the LNER Community Stadium.
DWFC Women Win Against Watford
After drawing 1-1 at Denham United a week ago, Lou Cooper’s side were back at home on Sunday afternoon and back to winning ways after defeating Watford Development 2-0 at Meadowbank. Striker’s Cherelle Khassal and Gemma Shepherd netted the goals in the space of six early second half minutes, on an afternoon where Ayla Darcy returned to the matchday squad after 18 months out with injury and new signing Sarah Sparrow, a forward previously of Vaughan Azzuri and London Whitecaps, both came off the bench in the latter stages of game.
With officially half their number of league games now played, the DWFC Women currently sit 3rd in the London & South East Division 1 North after a run of 7 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat. Wanderers are currently 3 points behind the top two, Clapton Community and Brentford, but do have 4 games in hand on the London-based sides due to the cup commitments of recent weeks.
And it’s the cup which again take’s precedent this weekend as the Women continue their defence of their Capital Cup trophy, facing London Seaward Reserves on Sunday afternoon, kick off time and location to be confirmed shortly.
Back-to-Back Wins For The B Team
Playing on a Saturday for the first time in 3 weeks due to breaks in the league schedule, Wanderers B followed up Tuesday night’s 1-4 win at Forest Row with another victory over the weekend, defeating East Preston 3-0 at Meadowbank. Captain Tommy Williams opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, Dan Berry adding another just before the interval and Academy midfielder Seb Tauta-Caballero sticking away the third goal midway through the second half.
Currently sat in 3rd place, Ruben Gaspar’s side are 2 points behind Epsom & Ewell and 6 points behind Shoreham in the Southern Combination Division One, the league leaders Shoreham next up for Wanderers B in a 3pm kick off at Meadowbank this Saturday afternoon.
